The Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) is grateful to partner with McKesson, Community Council of Greater Dallas, and Feonix Transportation to provide wrap-around services to Dallas County adults who are newly diagnosed with cancer. For those facing hunger, transportation and housing challenges, a cancer diagnosis only worsens health and treatment outcomes. So far, this program has produced impactful results with 98% of the patients in the program making their doctors’ appointments and 98% made it to all of their treatment sessions. The majority of these patients were at Stage 3 or Stage 4 when they were diagnosed, but with the support of this critical intervention 16% of the patients so far have gone into remission. To date, more than 4,000 meals have been delivered and more than 1,300 rides have been provided to treatment appointments. Other services provided included rental assistance, clothing, household necessities, food and gas cards and utility payment assistance.
