Save Lunch and Shine a Light on Senior Hunger
|
The Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA) will join Meals on Wheels America and other Meals on Wheels providers during the month of March to celebrate the historic day in March of 1972 when the Older Americans Act was amended to include a nutrition program for Americans 60 years and older. The campaign this year, #SaveLunch, will also shine a light on senior hunger and isolation and how community support, through volunteerism, donations, and advocacy, can help our senior neighbors thrive.

A Message From Katherine Krause

Spring has sprung here in North Texas! Tax day, spring cleaning and summer planning are likely at the forefront of your mind, much like they are mine. Following are some things to ponder in your planning:
Tax-smart ways to give: Give from your IRA! Are you over the age of 70 and looking for a tax-saving way to support VNA? You can make a difference today and save on taxes by giving through your IRA. Click here to learn more: https://plannedgiving.vnatexas.org/give-from-your-ira
Use your will power: Is it time to create or update your estate plans to protect your loved ones and the causes that are important to you? You can learn more here and get started with estate plans with this free tool.
Take stock: When you donate appreciated securities or mutual funds in support of our mission, you can reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. You may also be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of the securities at the time of the transfer. Learn more here.
Review what’s important: It can be difficult to focus on practical details when you or your loved one is in the midst of a medical crisis. No matter how important some of these considerations may be, they’ll likely seem trivial in a time of crisis—and for others, it may be too late to attend to them. For that reason, it’s helpful to consider these issues before they become pressing. Learn more here.
Schedule time to give back: If helping seniors and seriously ill patients speaks to your heart, get involved with VNA today as a volunteer. Learn more here.
Know that the Visiting Nurse Association is here for you and our community. I wish you a bright and healthy spring.
