Earlier this month both The Episcopal School of Dallas and the Greenhill School demonstrated innovativeness with two very different projects.
The Episcopal School of Dallas The goal was to reconnect students with service organization partners as they identified global challenges and designed innovative solutions. Eighteen fourth graders collaborated with three organizations, including VNA Meals on Wheels, to understand the challenges they face, particularly the need for volunteers to deliver meals.
In just two weeks, the students developed two promising ideas: delivery by drones and delivery by solar powered robots. Well done to the ESD fourth graders for their creativity!
Greenhill School – Third graders at Greenhill School created Love Bug bookmarks, selling them for $2.00 each and raising $1,574.00 for the Meals on Wheels Pet Food Program. They learned about the value of pets, explored budgeting, and discussed the services provided by Meals on Wheels. A volunteer, who is the grandfather of one student, spoke about his role in the organization. The students also examined supply and demand while selling bookmarks, practiced advertising and customer interaction over five sale days and presented at assemblies to promote the sale and announce their total earnings.

Are you looking for a meaningful experience for your 8-11-year-old this summer? The
Visiting Nurse Association has a great opportunity!
Our camp was created to empower the next generation of volunteers and philanthropists by teaching campers:
- The reality of senior hunger in our community
- The importance of good nutrition
- How to combat social isolation
- The gift of volunteerism
Who can attend?
The VNA Meals on Wheels Kids Camp is for children 8-11 years old.
Each camp is limited to 20 campers.
When are the camps?
Each camp is for one day and will be hosted on the following days:
- Tuesday, June 10 from 9:30 am-2:30 pm
- Tuesday, June 17 from 9:30 am-2:30 pm
- Tuesday, June 24 from 9:30 am-2:30 pm
- Tuesday, July 8 from 9:30 am-2:30 pm

Community Champions Dallas Fire & Rescue
Marched for Meals this month!
|
This month, we had the pleasure of welcoming a team of 16 volunteers from Dallas Fire and Rescue for their “Day of Caring” meal delivery event. As civil service leaders in the City of Dallas County community, the team at Dallas Fire and Rescue is dedicated to making a positive impact in the areas where they work, live, and play. By volunteering with us, these individuals delivered 156 meals to our clients, resulting in cost savings of $195. We would like to extend our gratitude to the Dallas Fire and Rescue team for partnering with us, and we look forward to hosting them again in the future!
Remember – every day is a great opportunity to bring joy and compassion to our senior neighbors in Dallas County who are in need! If you’re interested in delivering meals, please contact the Volunteer Team at volunteer@vnatexas.org to register for a route. Deliveries take place from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Typically, meal deliveries take about an hour to an hour and a half, making it easy to fit them into your lunch break.
Don’t want to deliver alone? Feel free to bring a friend, family member, or co-worker to join you! We are always looking for new volunteers and groups to join the thousands of volunteers who are already delivering.
