“When you visit someone that lives alone and/or can’t leave the house, you can bring joy to their day.” Brighten
“My favorite thing was making small talk and seeing them smile and being really happy, that made me happy.” Lottie

Corporate Group Spotlights
|
This month, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Technical Operations team from Southwest Airlines for another meal delivery “Day of Caring.” As one of our most engaged partners, the team at Southwest Airlines has consistently proven their commitment to making a difference in the communities in which they work, live, and play. By volunteering with us, the Southwest Technical Operations team was able to make a positive impact on the Dallas County community by delivering 69 meals to our senior neighbors equaling a cost savings of $82.25. Thank you again to the Technical Operations team at Southwest Airlines for partnering with us, and we look forward to hosting your team again in the future!

What brought you to Meals on Wheels?
“I started with Meals on Wheels because I felt there was a need, and I could fulfill that need. I figured I needed something to do in the mornings each day. I had never delivered Meals on Wheels, but thought “What can it hurt?” I tried a few different routes and enjoyed each of them. But, when I delivered to this one particular property, I knew I had found my route.”
What do you like most about the property/clients you serve each day?
“These seniors need resources for food and care, and the management is committed to supplying many services. That is when I knew I wanted to be a part of the call VNA is answering. I have enjoyed every delivery day. Visiting the clients and the other residents has enriched me. I am grateful VNA is there for these clients.”
We understand you have gone outside of the normal delivery. What is that all about?
“I noticed the facility had unused planters on the property. So, I approached management about supplying the planters with soil, vegetables, and herb plants and they were very receptive. I got the supplies, and the residents did the work. They planted various peppers, tomatoes, squash, watermelon, basil, and other herbs. Everyone enjoyed it so much that the facility management established a ’Garden Society’ to maintain the gardens. Everyone who lives on the property can partake in the harvest. It is so great to see the residents coming together to the garden. They have formed important friendships and can share fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs for them to eat.”
