Announcing the 2024 Mary Bartholow Volunteer of the Year Award Winner
|
We are excited to announce Lourice Collier is our 2024 Mary Bartholow Volunteer of the Year award winner! She began volunteering with VNA Meals on Wheels after she retired from Texas Instruments in 2001 and has continued to deliver meals, kindness, compassion, and friendship for more than 20 years. She delivers a weekly route in Oak Cliff and picks up extra routes throughout the week as she is able.
Lourice also serves her community through voter registration drives and health fairs at her church, Singing Hills Baptist Church. She is a proud graduate of Pinkston High School and has continued to serve as an alumnus of the school by supporting the athletic program, feeding them, and cheering them on!
Being of service is in Lourice’s DNA—a long-standing tradition learned from her mother and other family members. Delivering meals has taught her patience and increased her awareness of the needs of the senior community. Lourice looks forward to seeing her clients each week and loves laughing and socializing with them during the meal delivery. When she sees something wrong on the meal delivery schedule or with a client’s health, Lourice reports this to us through the mobile app and contacts us to make sure that we are going to follow up and take care of the client’s needs.
Lourice continues to share her servant heart with the community and emphasizes the need for more volunteers to deliver meals in the Oak Cliff area.

Thank you, Students Serving Seniors, for delivering more than just a meal!
|
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of welcoming a team of seven volunteers from Students Serving Seniors for their “Day of Caring” meal delivery event. As members of the Dallas County community, these college students are dedicated to making a difference in the areas where they work, live, and play. Through their efforts, the Students Serving Seniors team successfully delivered 47 meals to our clients, resulting in a cost savings of $58.75 for our organization.
We sincerely thank the team at Students Serving Seniors for partnering with us, and we look forward to hosting your group again in the future!
If you or your group is interested in partnering with VNA Meals on Wheels, please contact our volunteer team at 214-689-3222 or email us at volunteer@vnatexas.org.
