Volunteer Spotlight of the Month!
|
Our February volunteer spotlight is Bruce Richardson-Tilley.
Question: Bruce, when did you start delivering Meals on Wheels?
Answer: I first participated in the Southwest Airlines Meal Delivery Blitz in 2013 and took part in this event every year until COVID hit. Shortly after, I learned that I could help deliver meals year-round. I started out slow, delivering about once a week, but now I try to deliver 2 to 3 times a week. On top of that, I also deliver pet food once a month on Saturdays.
Question: What makes you continue serving others?
Answer: I’m so thankful to be part of this program and to work alongside so many dedicated volunteers. I’ve had countless rewarding moments and made many new friends while delivering meals to those in need.
Question: What are some of your Meals on Wheels highlights?
Answer: One of the highlights of this past year was delivering meals on Thanksgiving Day. I visited people I hadn’t met before, and they were especially grateful to receive a warm meal on such a meaningful holiday. Another unforgettable moment took place this Valentine’s Day. The VNA provided us with cards to share with clients. When I knocked on a door and handed a meal and card to a woman, she immediately began to cry. She apologized, saying, “I’m overwhelmed… thank you.” She shared that she never expected to see anyone that day, let alone receive a Valentine’s Day card. I couldn’t help but shed a few tears, too.
Thank you, Bruce, for being such an essential part of the VNA Meals on Wheels program!
Remember – every day is a great opportunity to bring joy and compassion to our senior neighbors in Dallas County who are in need! If you’re interested in delivering meals, please contact the Volunteer Team at volunteer@vnatexas.org to register for a route.
Don’t want to deliver alone? Feel free to bring a friend, family member, or co-worker to join you! We are always looking for new volunteers and groups to join the thousands of volunteers who are already delivering.

Our Pet Program Needs Volunteers!
|
Each month, volunteers help deliver pet food to Meals on Wheels clients who need extra support for their furry friends. Pets provide valuable companionship for seniors, offering comfort, reducing stress, and combating loneliness. But pets need care, and many older adults need a little extra assistance to ensure their pets stay healthy and happy.
By volunteering, you can make a big difference in the lives of both seniors and their pets. Join our team and help keep these animal companions thriving! Your time and care will be greatly appreciated by those who need it most.
