Our dedicated volunteers throughout Dallas County also delivered food and friendship to 2,600 clients. In fact the event was so successful VNA and volunteers were featured on Fox 4! Every day is a great opportunity to bring joy and compassion to our senior neighbors in Dallas County who are in need! If you’re interested in delivering meals, please contact the Volunteer Team at volunteer@vnatexas.org to register for a route. Deliveries take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Typically, meal deliveries take about an hour to an hour and a half, making it easy to fit them into your lunch break.
Don’t want to deliver alone? Feel free to bring a friend, family member, or co-worker to join you! We are always looking for new volunteers and groups to join the thousands of volunteers already delivering

Our team works diligently to ensure our senior clients have access to food and friendship year-round and especially during winter storms. Earlier this month, we made the decision to cancel Meals on Wheels deliveries when road conditions became unsafe for our staff and volunteers. Each fall, our clients are given a 5-pack of shelf-stable meals to cover holiday and inclement weather days. Clients are also provided with shelf-stable meals upon admission to the program and in advance of holidays, such as Independence Day in the summer months. These meals are designed to meet nutritional needs of seniors and we let clients know ahead of time if we can’t deliver and instruct them to eat one of the meals they have on hand.
When inclement weather interrupts meal delivery, like we experienced earlier this month, we also ask our volunteers to use the mobile delivery app to call and check on clients. These important calls provide much-needed socialization as well as a reminder that we aren’t delivering. Volunteers can also check to make sure clients are safe and can report back on any needs that our team can help with.
Since the last weather closure was on Thursday and Friday, we were concerned about clients having enough to get them through the weekend. Thanks to the generous support of the Dallas Mavs Foundation, we were able to provide clients with some additional food such as yogurt, peanut butter, milk, fruit, etc. Additional shelf-stable meals were also delivered to clients this month, so they have some on hand for any future winter weather interruptions.
It takes a village to support our vulnerable senior neighbors. Thank you to the Mavs Foundation and our dedicated volunteer army who checked on clients and helped us deliver the food and friendship they need.
