While March is technically National Nutrition Month, we celebrate good nutrition every day at VNA Meals on Wheels! Did you know that our Meals on Wheels menus are designed to meet a minimum of 1/3 of the nutritional daily requirements for older adults? This equates to 3 ounces of protein, 2-3 servings of vegetables, 1 serving of grains, and 1 serving of milk. Menus are always available online and are available in English and Spanish.

Tonia began volunteering with the VNA Meals on Wheels program in August 2023 through a partnership with The Senior Source. Tonia has a daughter who attends UNT and when she isn’t attending her daughter’s soccer games, she is volunteering her time serving the community. She says, “I enjoy delivering to all the clients, especially those that I have grown very close to. They remind me so much of my grandparents. We have small conversations making sure they are doing okay. I love just being able to help.” Like all of our servant’s heart volunteers, Tonia never hesitates to reach out when a client is no longer on her route or when someone is skipped for the day. “I get concerned when my regulars aren’t home, but that concern turns into relief when they tell me it was just a doctor’s appointment,” she says. Tonia delivers every weekday and is always willing to pick up extra routes when needed.
From our hearts to yours, THANK YOU, Tonia, for continuing to live the VNA Mission and helping seniors age with dignity and independence at home. You are appreciated!

Thank you to David Weekley Homes for joining us this month for their first meal delivery Day of Caring. As one of the top home builders in Texas, the team at David Weekley is committed to making a difference in the communities where they work and live. By volunteering with us, the David Weekley Homes team was able to make a positive impact on the Dallas County community by delivering 75 meals to our clients equal to a cost savings of $93.75 which will feed 3 seniors for 2 ½ weeks! Thank you again to the team at David Weekley Homes for partnering with us! We look forward to hosting your team again!
