Someone should have nominated the creator of air conditioning as the Texan Of The Century. Can you just imagine our fore-mothers and -fathers building the foundation of today’s North Texas in the heat of summer wearing corsets, long dresses, high-neck collars and such with the only respite being an open window with a breeze blowing through occasionally?
On Wednesday, North Texas hit a blistering 102° temperature. While some folks may not have realized it because of being out of town or chilling in state-of-the-art air-conditioning, there were others whose homes were like convection ovens. They even close their windows out of fear of unwanted interlopers, resulting in a pressure cooker condition.
Leave it to the Visiting Nurse Association to ramp up their Meals on Wheels program for seniors and home-bound neighbors to provide floor fans to help cool things off with its Summer Fan Drive.
